Jon was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in 2002. Under the tuition of Peter Bassano, Byron Fulcher and Richard Edwards, he undertook an orchestral Trombone BMus degree. During this time, he had the privilege of performing under hugely renowned conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Roger Norrington and Joseph Horovitz, alongside many other professional engagements outside of his studies with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, English Symphony Orchestra, Young Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.
Since leaving the college in 2006, Jon has played trombone at a large number of high profile concerts and festivals across the UK and Europe. Recent events include BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2010, Glastonbury Festival and the MOBO Awards.
In 2012, he co-founded Ace Horns, a brass section for live and session work. Recent recordings include remixes for Sam Smith & London Grammar and original tracks for artists including Shy FX, Ms. Dynamite, Jamie West and Katy Shotter.
Brass is notoriously difficult to recreate with virtual instruments, so thankfully a crack team of players have tooted and wailed into Sample Magic's always vintage range of mics and preamps...If you want a big collection of rasping sax, trumpet and trombone licks then this is a release you need to check out.
Future Music Magazine review of Sample Magic's Disco & Swing Brass (featuring Ace Horns)
Jon was a pleasure to work with, very professional - would employ him again.

Jon is quite simply one of the best musicians I know. He's a phenomenal keyboard player with an ability to improvise as well as create interesting accompaniments. He played trombone on my album and was a pleasure to work with. Imaginative, professional and highly skilled. His own production and songwriting are equally impressive. I highly recommend Jon to anyone looking for a fantastic musician.
