Jon Spanyol is a London-based Pianist, Trombonist & Music Producer. Moving to the capital in 2002, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the prestigious Royal College of Music with Peter Bassano, Byron Fulcher and Richard Edwards. Upon graduating in 2006, Jon has gone on to pursue a successful and varied career as a freelance musician.
A truly versatile artist, he is equally at home wearing a tuxedo playing jazz standards in London's top five-star hotels as he is dressed in denim, rocking out the synth lines to The Final Countdown in his 80s tribute band.
With a busy live performance schedule, Jon has performed at a huge number of weddings, corporate functions and many other events from Kensington to Kazakhstan (believe it or not!). Recent highlights include three shows at Glastonbury Festival, performing at the MOBO awards in Glasgow with Ms. Dynamite and gigs at venues such as Wembley Stadium, The Royal Festival Hall & The Royal Albert Hall.
Alongside his live commitments, Jon is very active as a studio musician, recently appearing on tracks with best-selling artists such as Sam Smith and London Grammar. His trombone playing can be heard on Charlie Winston's platinum-selling album, Hobo, which topped the French music charts in 2009. He has also recorded trombone and piano for Channel 4 and perhaps most bizarrely, his 'dulcet' bass vocal tones can be heard on several adverts for a popular American shaving product line.
As a composer and producer, Jon has worked extensively with a variety of music production libraries and singers, including co-writing and co-producing the recent EP by Katy Shotter. He has also worked as a music transcriber for the BAFTA-award-winning SingStar game franchise on Sony PlayStation. To date, he has transcribed close to 2000 songs in a large variety of European languages, alongside composing several pieces of menu music for the game.
